Sows have to be vaccinated in time, before farrowing.
The sow must be vaccinated in advance of farrowing to ensure high levels of antibodies in the colostrum. Ideally the primary vaccination for gilts is 7 weeks before farrowing. A booster vaccination 4 weeks before farrowing ensures that enough antibodies will be present in the colostrum. The booster has to be repeated prior to each farrowing.
